Project
Rainwater harvesting at Coloma
Collecting rainwater on the school grounds.
Water for the school
One of the most recent projects made possible by donations from the Rotary Foundation, Rotary Club Sittard and SHOLiA is rainwater harvesting on the grounds of Coloma Primary School.
Uganda too feels the effects of climate change: the rains are becoming less predictable — too little, or too much at the wrong time. With gutters and storage tanks rainwater is kept for the kitchen, the sanitary facilities and the school's vegetable gardens and plantations.
The pupils take part themselves. The children of primary 6 built a storage tank from empty plastic bottles, cemented together to form the walls; it now collects the rainwater from the rabbit house. The school also collects all its plastic for recycling in Mbarara.
