About us

A small foundation with a big heart for Uganda.

Who we are

Stichting Hulpfonds Ontwikkelingslanden in Afrika

S.H.O.L.i.A. — the Dutch “Foundation Aid Fund for Developing Countries in Africa” — was founded by members of Rotary Club Sittard, which has supported projects in Africa for many years. One of our members belonged to Rotary Doctors and travelled every year to a hospital in Malawi that we supported, until it could stand on its own feet. We keep looking for meaningful, feasible and sustainable ways to help people build a future for themselves and their families.

Today we support the Coloma project in Mbarara, Uganda, in many different ways.

Objective and approach

## Objective
The foundation's objective is to support institutions and individuals, mainly in African developing countries, in the fields of (medical) care and education.

## Activities
Our main activity is the sponsorship programme for the primary education of orphaned children at Coloma Primary Boarding School near Mbarara, Uganda. Every year we look for sponsors who are willing to pay the cost of a child's education and board for seven years. The foundation recruits sponsors, draws up the donation agreements and the agreements with the school, and handles the correspondence and the reports on the children's progress.

The foundation also gives financial support to other good causes brought to the attention of Rotary Club Sittard. The funds available for this are limited.

## Policy plan
The foundation pursues its objective by raising money and goods and by providing information and advice.

## Remuneration policy
The board receives no remuneration and works entirely on a voluntary basis.
